Tayyibah

Purity / Declaration
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللهِ

Transliteration

Laa ilaaha illallaahu Muhammadur Rasoolullah.

Translation

There is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Simple meaning: This Kalima teaches the basic declaration of faith and belief in the Messenger of Allah.

Second Kalima

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَّا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Transliteration

Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasooluhu.

Translation

I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

Simple meaning: This Kalima explains testimony with the heart and tongue.

Third Kalima

Tamjeed

Glorification
سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Subhaanallaahi walhamdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu wallaahu akbar, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil aliy-yil azeem.

Translation

Glory be to Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great.

Simple meaning: This Kalima includes praise, glorification and recognition that strength comes from Allah.

Fourth Kalima

Tawheed

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ، وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَّا يَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَبَدًا، ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ، بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyee wa yumeetu, wa huwa hayyul laa yamootu abadan abada, dhul jalaali wal ikraam, biyadihil khair, wa huwa alaa kulli shai-in qadeer.

Translation

There is none worthy of worship except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. To Him belongs the kingdom and for Him is all praise. He gives life and causes death. He is Ever-Living and never dies. He is the Owner of majesty and honour. In His hand is all good, and He has power over everything.

Simple meaning: This Kalima teaches the oneness, power and complete authority of Allah.

Fifth Kalima

Astaghfar

Seeking forgiveness
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُ عَمَدًا أَوْ خَطَأً، سِرًّا أَوْ عَلَانِيَةً، وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي أَعْلَمُ وَمِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي لَا أَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ وَسَتَّارُ الْعُيُوبِ وَغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوبِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Astaghfirullaaha rabbee min kulli dhanbin adhnabtuhu amadan aw khata-an, sirran aw alaaniyah, wa atoobu ilaihi minadh-dhanbilladhee a'lamu wa minadh-dhanbilladhee laa a'lamu, innaka anta allaamul ghuyoobi wa sattaarul uyoobi wa ghaffaarudh-dhunoob, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil aliy-yil azeem.

Translation

I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly. I turn to Him from the sin I know and from the sin I do not know. Surely You are the Knower of the unseen, the Concealer of faults and the Forgiver of sins. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great.

Simple meaning: This Kalima teaches asking for forgiveness for known and unknown mistakes.

Sixth Kalima

Radde Kufr

Rejecting disbelief
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ، تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَتَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالشِّرْكِ وَالْكِذْبِ وَالْغِيبَةِ وَالْبِدْعَةِ وَالنَّمِيمَةِ وَالْفَوَاحِشِ وَالْبُهْتَانِ وَالْمَعَاصِي كُلِّهَا، وَأَسْلَمْتُ وَأَقُولُ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللهِ

Transliteration

Allahumma innee a'oodhu bika min an ushrika bika shai-an wa ana a'lamu bihi, wa astaghfiruka limaa laa a'lamu bihi, tubtu anhu wa tabarra'tu minal kufri wash-shirki wal-kidhbi wal-gheebati wal-bid'ati wan-nameemati wal-fawaahishi wal-buhtaani wal-ma'aasee kullihaa, wa aslamtu wa aqoolu laa ilaaha illallaahu Muhammadur Rasoolullah.

Translation

O Allah, I seek Your protection from knowingly associating anything with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do not know. I repent from it and distance myself from disbelief, shirk, lying, backbiting, innovation, tale-carrying, shameful deeds, slander and all sins. I submit, and I say: there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Simple meaning: This Kalima teaches protection from wrong beliefs and bad actions.
